Things I've Learned From College

Here is a short list of very random things that I have learned in my first year of college and living away from home:

1. If you want to make a guy leave you alone, make him feel self conscious by staring at his hair line while he talks to you. (Thank you for this Warren, it really works and has helped me out many times)

2. Do not leave any food you want to eat in the sight of other girls. Especially if you write “Don’t eat! Lindsay’s food” on it.

3. Don’t bring Chanel boots to an apartment. They will only be ruined by mold.

4. The point of a apartment manager or landlord is not to help fix problems but charge you for not cleaning off the stains on the kitchen wall due to the leak they still haven’t fixed.

5. Even though you are considered and adult the landlord wont listen unless your parents complain. (My landlord didn’t do anything about our leak until 3 of my roommate's parents called to complain and my father showed up to make sure something was being done).

6. No matter how many times I try to think otherwise, most (if not all) male dancers look gay.

7. Do not take teachers that know who your father is. (Unfortunately 4 out of 5 will).

8. Do not add anything that even shows you are slightly liberal, into any paper, unless you know your teacher is too.

9. No one understands how you can date someone for more than 3 months and not be engaged, so don’t even try to explain it.

10. Conversations that begin with someone hitting on you and then asking for your name are common. To avoid these, stare at his hairline.

Can You Clean too Much?

Whenever my father leaves and goes out of town I always get a little worried. My dear sweet mother loves him a lot and stresses out easily. The absence of my father (the peacemaker and logic in our family) has caused my mother to stress out a ton. She even admits she is extremely stress, but she says she doesn’t know why she is like this. My sister and I figure the reasons for this is her Aunt from Cape Cod is coming to stay with next week, it’s time for spring cleaning and my father is in London. So, what better way to take out your emotions than on all the dirt in the house? Now, I am not exaggerating when I say this, I have been cleaning an average of 7 hours a day for the last week. Most of the cleaning has not been usual house cleaning jobs such as washing walls and vacuuming. I have almost been bitten by a black widow (well at least I saw one 3 feet away from me and assumed it wanted my blood). My mother called me up last night at 9 when I was over at Marie and Nate’s house (playing cards and baking Samoas bars) to try to convince me to come home to clean my room. Right now I have escaped for 30 min while the person she hired to help even more, cleans the floor. And yes, that is right. She hired someone and I’m doing this pretty much for free. I love a clean house, but when is it too much? I guess we’ll see when I can see my reflection on the walls, floors, toilets and probably dog. Well I’m off to scrub down the kitchen chairs and fireplace brick. Wish me luck.

Pink

There are many words that describe the color pink, but the one that I think is used most often it girly. I think too many people look at the color pink and think this. I agree that it is more of a feminine color and by all means I am not saying dress the men in it. What I am trying to say is have we been underestimating the power of pink? Did you know that bright pinks stimulate energy and can increase the blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat, and pulse rate. Pink can also encourage action and confidence. Pink has also been used in prison holding cells to effectively reduce erratic behavior. Crazy huh? Also in Japan, the color pink has a masculine association. The annual spring blooming of the pink-blossomed cherry trees (the Sakura) is said to represent the young Japanese warriors who fell in battle in the prime of life (the Samurai). I find this amazing! So good luck to you pink!
